Governor's Awards to Recognize Service Leaders
Nominations are being accepted for the Governor's Volunteerism and Community Service Awards. The awards highlight the efforts of outstanding Virginians who seek to enhance the lives of others in their communities. Honors are given each year to groups, individuals and families whose volunteer and community service efforts exemplify extraordinary volunteer service. Winners will be announced at a ceremony during Volunteer Week in April. Nominate someone today or review the nomination frequently asked questions.
Service Map of the Commonwealth
A comprehensive Service Map of the Commonwealth has been launched which details national service organizations and volunteer centers around the state. With a click of the mouse, organizations and individuals now have the ability to find resources in their area, including contact information and directions. Virginia organizations can also utilize a new Resource Library on vaservice.org which features a wide variety of publications including statistical reports and data, nonprofit management manuals, useful tools for faith-based and community organizations, and more. ALIVE Incorporated
The Congress of Volunteer Administrators Association (COVAA) Steering Committee is excited to share with you the progress of our work since the March update and to enlist your support for the final stage….election of the founding board! New Online Resource for Volunteer Management
Volunteer managers are encouraged to check out the new Volunteer Management Resource Center on Idealist.org . The free comprehensive online source contains new tools and existing resources to support volunteer management professionals in nonprofit organizations. The new link allows access to best practices, including risk management, tracking and evaluation, training, finding and screening volunteers, financial management, communications and more. Daily Points of Light Award

The Daily Points of Light Awards, given each weekday by the Points of Light Foundation, in
cooperation with the Corporation for National Service and the Knights of Columbus, this award
honors an individual or an organization that makes a positive and lasting difference in the
lives of others. Originally instituted during the administration of President George Bush, the
Daily Points of Light Award was a highly respected and popular program that identified and
celebrated a broad cross section of America's volunteers. The program ended when
President Bush left the White House on January 20, 1993, by which time more than 1,000
persons had been distinguished as "Daily Points of Light." The program was reinstated on
January 1, 1998.
Jefferson Awards
The Jefferson Awards recognize finalists in
various categories who demonstrate outstanding
achievement in public service and community service. Each winner receives the Jefferson
Award medallion. Apply on-line for national awards; contact local media sponsor for local deadline.
